Types of Spas We Move

1. Portable Hot Tubs (Above-Ground)

The most common type in Quebec and Canada. Weight ranges from 700 to 1,300 lb (320 to 600 kg) depending on the number of seats. It sits on a fixed base (concrete pad, compacted gravel, or wooden deck) and is not anchored to the ground. The main challenge: getting it out of the backyard without damaging the fence, the lawn, or any landscaping.

2. Inset Hot Tubs

Built into a deck, patio, or masonry structure. Before relocation, part of the surrounding structure usually has to be dismantled. This kind of project needs more planning, sometimes coordinated with a contractor.

3. Swim Hot Tubs

Longer (12 to 20 feet), heavier (1,700 to 3,300 lb / 800 to 1,500 kg), the swim spa is a logistical challenge on its own. Transport almost always requires specialized tools and careful route planning. Our movers are equipped for the job.

4. Nordic Baths / Barrel Spas

Built from wood (cedar, spruce, thermowood), a Nordic bath weighs between 330 and 770 lb (150 to 350 kg). Lighter than an acrylic tub, but the round shape and the wood staves call for careful handling so nothing splits. Some models include a wood stove and a chimney that need to be removed before transport. Increasingly popular in Quebec, especially in the Laurentians and on Montreal's North Shore.

How a Hot Tub Relocation Works with DMAX

Step 1: Site Assessment

We evaluate the type, the approximate weight, the width of access points, the obstacles around, and the conditions at the destination. Send us photos through our online form to get an exact price quickly.

Step 2: Preparation

On the day of the job, our crew protects the hot tub with padded blankets and removes detachable parts (cover, steps, control panel). We install floor protection to avoid damage to your lawn, your deck, or your walkways.

Step 3: Lift and Move

Depending on the setup, we use oversized-wheel dollies for lawn crossing, lifting straps, temporary ramps, or a specialized lift to clear a fence or hedge. The hot tub is lifted by the shell, never by the skirt, to avoid damage.

Step 4: Transport

The hot tub is strapped down inside our truck with padded protection on all sides. Our 20 to 30 foot trucks are equipped for this kind of heavy and oversized load.

Step 5: Installation

We place your hot tub at the chosen spot, verify the surface is level and capable of supporting the weight, remove the protection, and confirm everything is in order before leaving.

Why Hire DMAX Instead of a Hot Tub Specialist

Most hot tub transport and delivery companies in Quebec are specialists that only do this. DMAX is different.
One mover for everything
Moving at the same time as your spa? With DMAX, a single crew handles it all. No need to coordinate two companies, two schedules, two invoices.
The most comprehensive insurance in the industry
Competitors offer $30,000 to $50,000 in coverage. At DMAX: $100,000 per transport unit plus $2,000,000 in liability protection. The most complete coverage available in the Quebec moving industry.
20 years of heavy handling experience
DMAX has been moving pianos, safes, and industrial equipment since 2006. A hot tub job calls on the same skill set: access assessment, surface care, and handling heavy, fragile items.
4.9/5 on Google with 2,000+ reviews and CAA-recommended
A score that reflects our care, whether for a home move or spa transport. Our customers consistently recommend us, and we are the only mover on Montreal's North Shore recommended by the CAA.
12-month service, all across Canada
We work in deep winter as well as in mid-summer. We cover the North Shore, Laval, Montreal, the Laurentians, and we travel across Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritimes for long-distance jobs.

How to Prepare Before the Big Day

1

Drain the hot tub completely

A full hot tub can weigh twice its empty weight.

2

Have it disconnected by a certified electrician

The hot tub must be unplugged by a certified electrician (240V connection) before moving day.

3

Remove the accessories

Hard cover, steps, towel holders, drink holders.

4

Clear the access path

Patio furniture, flower pots, BBQ, anything that blocks the way.

5

Open or remove the fence section

If possible, clear the access before our arrival to save time.

6

In winter: shovel and de-ice the access

Right up to the hot tub and along the entire exit path.

What Makes Hot Tub Transport Difficult

A hot tub is between 800 and 2,200 lb (350 to 1,000 kg) of acrylic shell, fiberglass, and mechanical components. Most of the time, it sits in the backyard, not next to the street.

Obstacles we see all season long:

  • Fence gate too narrow for the unit to fit through
  • Cedar hedge blocking side access
  • Raised wood deck or inset model embedded in the structure
  • Shed, heat pump, gas meter, or air conditioner in the way
  • Stairs, retaining walls, sloped terrain, or soft ground in spring
  • Low power lines, eaves, or gutters above the path
  • Drainage ditch between the yard and the street

Our crews evaluate each of these points before arriving. That assessment lets us pick the right tools, ensure the safety of your hot tub, and avoid problems on the day of the job. Contact our team for a premium delivery and relocation service built around this kind of careful prep work.
